What people ask before they book a snowshoe tour.
The comparison table on this page carries the current price of every tour. The order barely moves: the short walks close to the city are the cheapest, the wilderness hikes and the aurora evening sit in the middle, and the husky and reindeer combination tours top the range. These are Norwegian prices: a guided Arctic tour with equipment, transfer and a small group costs what it costs this far north.
Snowshoeing is more strenuous than normal walking, and that regularly surprises beginners. Lifting snowshoes through fresh snow, especially uphill, is a workout. No experience is needed on any tour we compare, and guides set a group-friendly pace. If you are unsure about fitness, start with the 2.5-hour Tromsøya walk; if you are reasonably active, the 4-hour wilderness hikes are within reach.

The tours we compare are built for beginners: snowshoes and equipment and a snack or meal are included, and every tour except the walk from the Fjellheisen cable car includes the drive out to the trail. The exact list varies per tour; the "What's included" section on each GetYourGuide product page is the binding one. Bring proper winter clothing and footwear of your own.
The core season is November to March, with October and April as shoulder months depending on snow. Wandering Owl runs one of the longest seasons, from 1 October to 15 April. Early and late in the season, snow near the coast can be thin, and tours then move to higher or more inland trails.
From late November to mid-January the sun stays below the horizon in Tromsø. That does not mean 24-hour darkness: around midday there are a few hours of soft blue twilight, which is beautiful but different from the sunny brochure photos. Daytime tours run in that twilight; evening tours run in real darkness, which is exactly what the aurora tour wants.
On the evening tour, sometimes. The trails lie away from the city lights, so on a clear night with solar activity your chances are real. No operator can promise aurora. If the lights are part of your plan, the aurora snowshoe evening hike is the natural pick; daytime tours will not see them.
